Joel Salatin, Save Our Saluda, and an Office Tour

The Joel Salatin has been approved for CLP status! Make sure you are there at Younts on October 15th at 7pm - it's going to be awesome. Check out: polyfacefarms.com

Also - FUOC and FUUF (Furman University Upstate Forever) have been collaborating to bring a representative of Save Our Saluda, a local grass-roots organization dedicated to preserving the rivers of upstate South Carolina to Furman this month. Tentatively, this will be a CLP on October 28th in Burgiss theater, so mark your calendars!

As a follow up, we will be helping to organize a river clean up on the Saluda River on the morning of Sat, October 31 - yes its Halloween but its in the morning so it shouldn't interfere with your plans! Or come in costume if you like :) This event will also be publicized to community members of Upstate Forever, so this is a great chance to mingle and get outside the bubble!

And lastly, we will be able to go downtown for a tour of Upstate Forever's super-cool "greenovated" office building! We will determine a date for this at our meeting.

Please come to the meeting to brainstorm more ideas for this term or next term, come with suggestions if you can!

Upcoming Events and Things!

Big thanks to those of you who came out to the meeting on Monday! We established two officer positions: 1)President - Grace Tuschak, and 2) Secretary/Treasurer: Daniel Balo.
This term we have some really cool things planned, check it out:

First Event - Joel Salatin at Furman!!
The Upstate Forever Organization has been instrumental in bringing Joel Salatin of Polyface Farms to lecture at Furman. As the student chapter, will be co-sponsoring this CLP event on October 15th at 7pm (along with Environmental Action Group, Furman in the Garden, and Bartram Society) featuring a lecture by Joel Salatin of Polyface farms, "America's premier non-industrial food production oasis" located in Virginia. A very entertaining and dynamic speaker, Joel was featured in Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan as well as the recent documentary Food, Inc. Everyone should come to this event, it's going to be great!

Save our Saluda CLP + River Clean Up
We also have plans in the works to bring a speaker from the local conservation group Save Our Saluda to (CLP) talk about the current state of the Saluda River (sixth most polluted in the country, guys!) and we will also plan a river clean up soon afterwards. We'd love to co-spo with some other groups on this as well.

Keep checking back, we also now have a "FUUF" forum to make it easier to keep track of this group's plans! :)
